Contents page

This is now what my contents page is looking like.

I have completely changed everything about my contents page including the layout, the last layout wasnt working

How the front cover is looking now.

This is now how my front cover of my music magazine is looking.

The image now looks better because It's been moved to the side more and Lauren really sticks out the page.

The also inside text with all the cover lines has also been relocated to nearer the top, I think it now looks better up at the top rather than in the bottom corner because when it was in the bottom corner I felt it took attention away from the actual main story.

The main story now stick out more with the Word Exclusive in Red and Lauren going right across the screen with the black and the white outline. Then the speaks out about her first arena tour!! With the red italics really sticks out. It looks more like a music magazine.

I am considering putting in a background colour as well, there is a lot of white spaces at the moment but I have more text I'm going to add.

Changing the Masthead

I have now changed my masthead, in a previous post I had posted about moving the barcode, issue number and price. I have now made the listen text bigger so It's more eye capturing which I now think it is because when I look at the magazine it sticks out to me along with the Lauren Ronan text.

I have now changed my selling line as well in terms of blending options and colour. I think that the drop shadow with the white text works really well and is really effective because the backgrounds white, it sort of bounces off the background.

The selling line has also been relocated, I purposely changed it so it didn't fit in with the masthead, I wanted it coming off it which has challenged the conventions but it works really well.

Repositioning the Barcode, Issue number and price

I have now moved the barcode, issue number and price to the top right hand corner as I felt having it in the Masthead drew away attention from the actual masthead itself, It looks better now in the corner.

Changing round text and text sizes.

I didn't think my original text and text positioning worked very well, it was all very over the place and nothing ever really stood out as a main headline so I've now changed the positioning and text size to a more professional and readable look.

Progress on front cover

Improvement to the Masthead

I have now changed my masthead with regard to the barcode, issue number and price. I thought it originally looked quite scruffy and unprofessional but now I think it looks more realistic.

Adding Text

I have now began to add text into my double page spread this isn't the exact layout just yet but I'm starting to put everything into place. I have kept the text at Arial once again.

Starting the double page spread

This is the start of my double page spread. I've added an image of Lauren in the top right hand corner, eventually I will add more images. The background in this is also silver which I haven't done on my front cover or contents page but for now I'm just testing it to see what looks right and what doesn't.

Conventions of a Contents Page

These are the conventions of a music magazine:

  • Layout- Set into columns, usually 3 or 4.
  • One main image- Relating to a feature article
  • Other smaller images
  • Structured layout
  • Page numbers on the images which anchors to the written contents
  • Top of page- Name of magazine, issue date and the word contents
  • Subscription and contact information
  • Editors letter- sometimes appears on the top left hand side of the page
  • Contents- is divided into categories and headings used to identify each category
  • Colours- contents page colours usually same as front cover

A brief insight to the contents page

This is what my contents page is looking like so far, It's not quite finished yet as I need to add more images about the main feature, I'm going to place an image in-between the listen contents an the listen this week.

I have kept the same 'Listen' font and gradient fill the whole way through with the same red background. I have also kept the words underneath it in the same Arial font with the silver colour. It's the same regarding the shapes as well they have been kept with the same silver colour.

The social media platforms are also now in place as well.

Contents Page

I have added this down the side to reference to the actual contents so everything that's been written briefly about has an image to match it down the side. This isn't finished yet and I still need to add other images into it and probably makes in smaller and less thick as the pictures aren't going to fill the full thing.

Adding Social Media Platforms

I have now added in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This appeals out to young people as they are always online and because the magazine in on 3 different platforms it makes the magazine easier to access. This then gives the opportunity for people to see what's going on each one of these platforms so they can have a clear idea about the magazine and what's going to happen in next weeks edition before they go and buy it. It's important that magazines have different levels of platforms for their magazine so it's just not limited to one specific audience.
